What is the assertion?
The assertion is the thesis statement or the main point of an argument.

Example of an assertion

"Homework is a waste of time."

What is the reasoning?
The reasoning is the "because" part of an argument.

Example of reasoning

"Homework is a waste of time because it takes away from other activities that are more important."

What is the evidence?
The evidence is expert testimony, statistics, or historical or contemporary examples which support the reasoning.

Example of evidence

"For example, we end up doing worksheets of math problems instead of getting outside and getting fresh air and exercise."
